Vermiculture

We have had a great time dig, dig, digging in the wet soil these past few days. I have gotten lots of weeding done, and have found many worms in the process. The kids are now certified worm enthusiasts and are eager to start our own worm farm. I've never attempted any vermicomposting, though it's supposed to yield awesome soil, so I am not sure if we'll give it a try. In the meantime, they're having a hey-day creating homes, play areas and restaurants for their new friends. This is how it goes: Ella holds the worms and transports them around, Norah follows her around and looks at the worms (will NOT touch!), and Owen tries to touch the worms with things like trowels and bubble wands. Ella refuses any extra-large variety worms, though... too slimy!
