We have been just lapping up this warm weather... not too hot, a little breezy; perfect for playgrounds and backyards and popsicles. We spent a fantastic morning at two playgrounds this week; at the second we met up with friends Tina, Brennan and Clara (see popsicle photo). They happened to be at a park within walking distance to our house, so we pulled the wagon over after lunch for a little visit. Our friends Molly and Ellie were having a Mommy-Daughter day, and we met up with them at the Como Zoo for a wonderful morning... even snuck in a train ride before we headed home. (Nonie was up at 5:15 a.m. that day, so a meltdown ensued shortly after the train and we had to bug out!)
The afternoons of fooling around in the backyard are priceless... sometimes we have some neighbor kids stop by, but mostly it's just us finding things to do. Today we made binoculars out of cardboard tubes for our lion hunt. Nonie has just been obsessed with this lion hunt book from the library... "We're going on a lion hunt, we're going to catch a big one, we're not afraid, look what's up ahead." So we act it out and I am always the vicious lion in the cave (a part I happily play, to be honest!). She now searches for everything through these binoculars. And we made a fort with a box from one of the cabinets for the basement. They really enjoyed bringing the markers outside for this project. With so much going on in the basement, I need to remember how short summer is and make time for them and projects like these. Before I know it, the summer will be over and school will begin for our family; our little world will never be the same. I need to relish this time together instead of constantly check my to-do list! I resolve to try. (o:
