We've decided to have a weekly talent show night at our house; we're on week three and it's taking on a life of its own! The kids love planning what their talents will be, and guessing what Paul and I will come up with. Our only rule is that everyone has to participate. Here's what's been done so far:
Weeks 1 & 2:
Paul: Magic trick with water, magic trick with coin
Carmella: tumbling, singing a song
Norah: song with slide whistle, dancing
Owen: how to throw a football, teamed up with me for an airplane ride
Me: "Twinkle" on the recorder, see above
Well, this week we worked as a family to put on a play of the "Three Billy Goats Gruff." My sister was invited to participate, and thus we had an audience! We made masks and practiced our lines (Owen forgot his, as did Paul (aka the grumpy troll)...); overall though, it was a success. Auntie's talent was reading a lovely Elizabeth Barrett Browning poem called "The Best Thing in the World." Our neighbors heard about our little shows, and want to join in the fun. I love this cheesy stuff!
An aside... for roughly the past six weeks, Ella has been earning money and saving up for a Razor scooter. She finally reached her goal after watching/caring for Auntie and Scottie's cat over the weekend. She loves the scooter, and we are so proud of her for persevering. I am a bit astounded at her patience and diligence with this. Most of her jobs earned her a quarter apiece, and included setting the table, putting dishes away, helping with laundry, putting out the recycling, etc. (Auntie and Scottie were a bit more generous when she did jobs for them... )Way to go, sweetie! We're so proud of you.

That is so cute and so you! I should fly Connor out as a special guest performer because he just saw a magic show and has been treating us to 60 or so performances a day. "There's no fake seaweed in this hat...Abracadabra FAKE SEAWEED....ta da, it's...fake seaweed!" Never gets old. =)
