The holiday weekend created the perfect opportunity for a family getaway to Eau Claire. We started off at my dad's house for his birthday dinner, playtime and a rousing card game of Peanuts. (If you ever want to learn this partner game, let me know. We love it! Joanne and I rule!!) The next day brought my ideal fall weather: sunny and crisp. Excellent for a walk in the woods with Papa and pooch, Libbie.
We packed up after lunch for part two of our trip: salsa canning with the Skutleys. Paul and Tim did 99% of the work on this; Katie and I lucked out with kid duty. They played outside and were just happy to be together, so Katie and I had ample chitchat time. Most of the wares used for the salsa were homegrown, which was so awesome. The guys grilled an 11-pound chicken (WHOA!) for dinner, and made tasty chicken noodle soup the next day with the leftovers. Another great day.
Sunday afternoon we went to Phyllis' and were treated to a lovely walk, tasty rib and chicken dinner and games galore. Monday morning came too quickly! We headed home with smiles on our faces and warm memories in our hearts. Cheesy, but true. We're one lucky family!
